The folks who made the calendar did us a favor of giving us an even number of months that can divide nicely into quarters. And here we are, just several days until the last month of the 3rd quarter..
So how are you doing with your annual goals? Ask yourself these three questions to assess where you are:
Is it still relevant? If not, decide whether to keep it or change it. This might involve a discussion with your manager or even higher up the food chain if this goal is tied to a performance review. But do this BEFORE its time for your review!
Can it still be achieved? Rarely are our goals made in a vacuum, and will often rely on other circumstances. Even my goal of learning Spanish by the end of the year, a singular goal in itself is dependent on things like how much time I've committed to doing my other goals and whether I set aside enough time to accomplish this goal (I did not, unfortunately). Again, talk with your boss if it isn't still achievable in its current form. There is still time to adjust and make some progress on it.
What is needed to achieve it? If it is still doable, figure out what needs to be done to get it done. Do you need some additional resources? Or maybe just the ability to carve out time to actually get it done. Will your boss let you block out four hours a day from now until the end of the year to get it done? Start taking action now!
As you can tell, these steps don't just apply to work, but also personal (I have no professional need to speak Spanish). But moving forward takes action. What action are you taking?
