Is Apple's Patent Wars Hurting Shareholders

Apple has engaged in a scorched-earth policy of trying to destroy Google's Android and has been embroiled in battle with various manufacturers of Android devices for several months now, with mixed success.  But should Apple continue to pursue such a strategy?  Bloomberg has an article out that talks about just this topic.  Basically, Apple is unlikely to stop Android, but if it continues down its current path, these manufacturers are going to come up with work arounds.  The alternative? Licensing.  Microsoft makes more money from licensing its patents to Android manufacturers than it does from making Windows Phone.  Even Apple licenses Microsoft's Active Sync services for use with its iDevices.  Should Apple start licensing to these manufacturers?  Maybe then Apple could structure how these companies use this technology instead of inventivizing them to come up with their own systems that doesn't benefit Apple.  Just a thought...
